Sharing a stage with Daljit Nagara
Acclaimed poet Daljit Nagra MBE performed at a special edition of the Poets’ Cafe for the ARCH ‘Write On’ Festival at The Abbey School. Students from The Abbey and Reading School then took to the stage to share their work.
The Cafe was led by hosts Vic Pickup and Zannah Kearns from Reading Stanza, who are behind Reading’s popular ‘Poets’ Cafe’ at South Street Arts.
“We were hugely impressed by the young people who read their work – they had written powerful, moving, excellently crafted pieces, and performed with confidence and verve.
It was wonderful to also have Daljit Nagra performing. This was followed by a lively Q&A where Daljit shared about his writing process and inspiration, and gave lots of tips on how the students can keep developing their writing.
The opportunity to collaborate through The Abbey School with so many young and engaged writers from Reading was a real treat, and the event was a great showcase of how vibrant the poetry scene is today.”
